How to use this calendar

Start warm-season crops (tomatoes, peppers, basil) indoors 6–8 weeks before your last frost, then transplant once nights stay above 50°F. Direct-sow cool-season crops (lettuce, spinach, peas, radish) in early spring and again in late summer for a fall harvest. Use succession sowing — replant lettuce, radish, and beans every 2–3 weeks for a continuous supply.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start tomatoes indoors?

Start tomatoes and peppers indoors 6–8 weeks before your last expected frost — usually February to March in zones 5–7. Transplant outdoors once nights stay above 50°F (10°C).

What can I plant in early spring?

Cool-season crops: peas, spinach, lettuce, radish, and carrots can all be direct-sown in early spring as soon as the soil is workable.

What grows in fall?

Sow a second round of lettuce, spinach, radish, and kale in late summer for a fall harvest, and plant garlic in October–November to harvest the next summer.
